The joint venture combines experienced local personnel with global resources and expertise.

Terra Verde is delivering nearly 10 kilometres of parallel tunnels between Glen Waverley and Box Hill, including 39 cross passages and two station boxes at Glen Waverley and Burwood in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, as part of the Suburban Rail Loop Project.

This is the largest infrastructure project in Victoria’s history, shaping Melbourne and Victoria for future generations.

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Project Engineer with proven cross passage and underground construction experience to join our tunnelling delivery team.

In this role, you will support and lead the engineering and delivery of cross passage excavation and construction within a live tunnel environment—covering planning, design interfaces, safety, program performance, and construction methodologies.

Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering one of the most technically challenging elements of the project while gaining hands-on experience across tunnelling, ground support, waterproofing systems, and complex underground works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate onsite engineering and construction activities to meet programme and budget targets
  • Lead planning and delivery of cross passage works in a confined, high‑risk tunnel environment
  • Develop and implement safe, high‑quality, cost‑effective construction procedures
  • Prepare and present construction methodologies and excavation sequences
  • Oversee subcontractor performance, procurement, and resource scheduling
  • Drive quality assurance, risk management, and compliance with safety and environmental requirements
  • Monitor progress, maintain accurate reporting, and ensure programme adherence
  • Use project document and record management systems for performance reporting
  • Support budget preparation, cost forecasting, and production reporting
  • Coordinate interfaces across civil, structural, geotechnical, and safety disciplines
  • Maintain working knowledge of contract scope, PSR, and project specifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen
  • Solid understanding of project management frameworks, standards, and contractual requirements
  • Knowledge of design, quality, safety, and environmental management plans
  • Understanding of design, planning, and legislative requirements for major infrastructure projects

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction, or related discipline
  • Experience in tunnelling, underground works, or major construction projects
  • Background in project engineering, design interfaces, and onsite delivery
  • Experience in cross passages, ground support, excavation, or waterproofing (advantageous)

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong planning capability across multidisciplinary scopes
  • Ability to deliver work packages to time, budget, and safety requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Primavera P6, and AutoCAD
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in confined, high‑risk environments
