The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

The position of Specialised Freight Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating traffic and transport activities on the project, with a focus on specialised freight including heavy haulage, oversize overmass (OSOM), and other activities apart from general freight.

 

Qualifications:

  • Relevant certification or diploma in Logistics, Piloting and Escorting, Heavy Lift & Transport or a related field is desirable.
  • Minimum Class C Driver’s Licence
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy haulage/specialised transport management, logistics, or a related role, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Detailed knowledge of load restraint, loading/unloading, transport plans, permits, and transport safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating traffic and transport logistics, including oversize/overmass heavy haulage and Performance Based Standards transports.
  • Knowledge of tunnelling projects or similar large-scale construction projects.
  • Familiarity with traffic management software and tools.

Required Competencies:  

  • Understanding of Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) including Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and associated regulations.
  • Understanding of safety regulations and standards related to traffic and transport management in construction.
  • Ability to interpret loading and lashing plans, and transport engineering drawings.
  • Ability to review and ensure compliance with transport permits and approvals.
  • Ability to develop and review key safety documentation and risk assessments.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with project teams, transportation providers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong initiative and proactive nature.
  • Proficient in coordinating transport logistics within a construction site to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and materials.
  • Ability to identify and address traffic and transport-related challenges promptly.
  • Proficiency using traffic management software, tools, and technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee specialized traffic and transport activities within the Snowy 2.0 Project’s construction sites and on local transport routes, ensuring adherence to safety, regulatory and project requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with construction crews, transportation providers, and project teams to coordinate vehicle and material logistics.
  • Maintain accurate records of traffic management plans, permits and approvals, incidents, and transportation schedules.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in traffic and transport operations.
  • Address traffic and transport-related challenges promptly to minimize disruptions and enhance efficiency.
  • Provide support in decision-making processes to optimize traffic flow and transport logistics.
  • Effectively use traffic management software and tools to monitor and improve traffic and transport operations.
  • Assist in supporting the transportation and traffic management teams to ensure cohesive operation.
