The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Coordinator is accountable for coordinating site based HSE governance activities and providing support to the project team. This role ensures compliance with FGJV Health & Safety Management system and client specifications, maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Formal HS Qualifications (e.g. Certificate IV Workplace Health & Safety)
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessment – desirable
  • Driver’s License
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred.
  • Experience working on large-scale construction projects or other suitable projects works.
  • Interpretation and application of relevant HSE Acts, Regulations, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • Problem solving, interpretation, reasoning, and judgement skills with an ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Completion of audits and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build sound working relationships with clients and colleagues.

Required Competencies:  

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, best practices, and relevant industry standards.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey safety procedures and requirements to all levels of personnel.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address complex HSE issues.
  • Proactive Approach: Genuine commitment to promoting a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement in HSE processes and practices.
  • Decision-Making: Confident and decisive decision-making ability in high-pressure situations to prioritise safety.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Proficiency in preparing comprehensive reports, conducting incident investigations, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and mentor HSE Advisors and foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Collaboration: Effective teamwork and collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve HSE objectives.
  • HSE Compliance: Thorough understanding of compliance requirements and regulations to ensure adherence to HSE standards.
  • Risk Management: Experience in conducting risk assessments and implementing risk management strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Training: Knowledge of HSE training requirements and experience in providing relevant training to personnel.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and support to the construction management team to ensure compliance with statutory, FGJV, and client HS obligations.
  • Implement Health & Safety (HS) plans and subsidiary systems documentation.
  • Communicate HSE issues and standards.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Area HSE Activity Schedule.
  • Coordinate implementation of the HSE Activity Schedule and initiatives, including HSSE Compliance Audits, Workplace Inspections, Emergency Drills, and Exercises.
  • Support the area HSE team and ensure proper resourcing for meeting HSE Activity Schedule obligations.
  • Identify HSE training requirements.
  • Analyze and report on FGJV lead and lag targets to Project Management.
  • Conduct thorough incident event investigations and ensure proper recording and closure of information in accordance with FGJV HSSE Management System timeframes.
  • Promote a dynamic and positive HSSE culture focused on achieving success.
  • Coach and mentor HSE Advisors.
  • Maintain HSE representation at key construction planning and coordination meetings.
