The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

The Laboratory Lead will support the project by supervising construction materials testing on soils, aggregates, rock, grout and concrete. They will supervise and coordinate testing activities, issue reports, implement and operate under quality management systems and liaise with subcontractors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or related field and 5 years of experience performing laboratory tests on construction and geotechnical materials
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Experience in supervising and reporting on construction materials testing activities
  • Construction project experience preferred

  • Good understanding of Australian and International Standards relating to concrete and earthworks
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong teaching and coaching skills
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Ability to collaborate across technical functions, site construction engineers and external stakeholders 
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets and can prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Familiar with lab methodologies and understand the importance of clean and orderly workspace by diligently following all lab procedures for health and safety
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
  • Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to carry out work instructions and directives to provide satisfactory outcomes.

 

 

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory testing of soils, aggregates and concrete ensuring that the laboratory testing services are conducted in a safe manner and consistent with company quality protocols, project requirements, and in a timely manner
  • Management of laboratory team of technicians, including signing in/timesheets, allocation of duties and scheduling of tasks
  • Coordinating activities internally with other departments and with subcontracted laboratory service providers
  • Preparation of daily shift reports
  • Approving reports
  • Data management and analysis
  • Oversee or coordinate the training and utilization of laboratory staff.
  • Oversee or coordinate the maintenance and cleanliness of the laboratory and testing equipment (including calibrations)
  • Evaluate the performance of the laboratory employees and assists them in their professional development and growth, consistent with company policies and procedures
  • Ensure that worksheets, chain-of-custody documents, reports, proposals, and information required by subcontractors and client are properly prepared and reported
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices
