Laboratory Engineer

The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.

Purpose of the Role:

As part of our Technical team you will undertake laboratory testing of materials,  reporting and overseeing a team of Laboratory Technicians.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering Technology, Materials Science or a related field
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred
  • Exposure working on a major civil infrastructure project of comparable size and complexity to the Snowy 2.0 project.
  • Experience establishing and managing laboratory tests for construction and geotechnical materials

  • Good understanding of Australian and International Standards relating to concrete and earthworks
  • An ability to lead a team and develop skills
  • An ability to collaborate across technical functions, site construction engineers and external stakeholders Sound interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets and can prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Good organisational skills and able to pay attention to detail
  • Familiar with lab methodologies and understand the importance of clean and orderly workspace by diligently following all lab procedures for health and safety
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication
  • Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent safety awareness with good housekeeping habits.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out work instructions and directives to provide satisfactory outcomes.
  • Ability to work within a team environment to achieve desired results

 

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing a team of Laboratory Technicians. Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Assist in establishing a testing regime and protocols for the project ensuring safety and quality are maintained
  • Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, cement, fly ash and other materials
  • Ensure proposals, reports and information supplied internally and to client are accurate and delivered in a timely manner
  • Monitor quality standards and practices
