  • Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical).
  • Professional Status: Membership with Engineers Australia is preferred.
  • Specific OEM training certifications for TBM operation or maintenance are highly desirable.
  • Licensing: Valid Manual Driver’s License and High-Risk Work Licenses are essential for plant access.
  • Licensing: Confined Space Entry (essential), Working at Heights, and Basic Rigging/Slinging.
  • White Card.

Experience:

  • Industry: 3+ years specifically working with TBMs (EPB, Slurry, or Hard Rock shields).
  • 5+ years in a Plant & Equipment role involving large-scale rotating equipment or hydraulic machinery.
  • Proficiency in CAD and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).

Required Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of closed-loop hydraulic systems and the ability to read complex fluid power schematics.
  • Understanding of the mechanical tolerances required for segment lining and TBM steering.
  • Experience in planning the install/removal of massive components in confined underground spaces.
  • Ability to liaise with OEMs for specialized parts and technical support.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in using CAD software for drafting and design.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply new skills.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced project environments.
  • Time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Comfortable working in remote, high-pressure environments on a 14/7 roster with extended hours.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Maximize the "Advance Rate" by ensuring all mechanical, hydraulic, and lubrication systems are functioning within OEM specifications.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to analyse and modify designs based on project requirements and constraints.
  • Cutterhead Management: Monitor and manage the wear-and-tear of cutting tools.
  • Plan and supervise "Maintenance Shifts" (stoppages) for cutterhead inspections and tool changes.
  • Oversee the complex high-pressure hydraulic circuits that power the thrust cylinders, torque motors, and segment erectors.
  • Manage the maintenance of the back-up systems, including conveyors, grout plants, ventilation ducting, and cooling water circuits.
  • Interpret TBM PLC data (thrust, torque, penetration rates) to diagnose mechanical stress or potential failures before they occur.
  • Provide detailed daily reports to the P&E Manager regarding machine health, upcoming component replacements, and any structural fatigue.
  • Lead the mechanical team during critical failures (e.g., conveyor belt tears, hydraulic leaks, or main bearing issues) to minimize "standing time" costs.
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation using CAD software.
  • Support the implementation and installation of mechanical systems on-site.
  • Contribute to project meetings and discussions to provide insights and updates on mechanical design progress.
  • Participate in design reviews and identify potential design improvements.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining engineering documentation, reports, and records.
  • Prepare SOW, Material and Equipment procurement request and follow up with Suppliers and FGJV Global supply chain team.
  • Comply with project safety and quality standards in all mechanical engineering activities.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on significant equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
  • Utilize the company’s CMMS to track asset health, manage work orders, and analyse Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
  • Review technical bids, manage specialized service providers on-site, and ensure parts procurement meets engineering specifications.

The above listed authorities & responsibilities are only a guide and may change as directed by your Manager/Supervisor or as per the requirements of FGJV Management.

As an employee you will be eligible to participate in a number of additional employee benefits.  This includes:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Qantas Club Membership discounts
  • Professional Development

These positions are in remote challenging areas with extreme cold temperatures which need to be considered before applying for these roles.
