The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

Management & coordination of design of deep excavations of underground structures like shafts, tunnels, power house’s service tunnels, waterways tunnels, all junctions between tunnels, plugs and design support during the construction for the change process preparation and follow up.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering experience on deep excavation of hydraulic structures.
  • Professional Engineer certification or license - preferred  
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred
  • Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable projects works
  • Experience in use of any of the following Geotechnical software’s SLOPE, PLAXIS, FLAC or similar is a must.
  • Prior deep excavation design experience with ground supports is a must

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design delivery of all underground structures design works in line with design programme including approval from Employer
  • Responsible to ensure compliance of all underground structures design submissions with Employer’s Requirements
  • Coordination with design consultant on a day-to-day basis, to provide timely construction inputs to the design & ensure timely delivery of all design packages in line with design programme
  • Coordination with E&M subcontractor to seek timely inputs on Trash racks, stoplogs & other E&M services under E&M subcontractor’s work, for integration with civil works design prepared by design consultant.
  • Review all the submissions of all design works from design consultant to ensure, all agreed construction methodologies & construction sequences are properly incorporated in to the design and provide comments in case of any deviations, to ensure the design is constructible in line with agreed construction inputs earlier as well as it is integrated with all necessary & relevant E&M inputs received from E&M Subcontractor.
  • Value Engineering & Optimization of tender design is the key to success for the design project. Ensure the submission is value engineered and optimize the rock/ground supports, to ensure the design is well within the tender design quantities.
  • Follow-up with design consultant and ensure timely submission of all design packages to Employer in line with design programme.
  • Engage with Employer and arrange engineering workshops between design consultant & employer, to explain the design submittals towards expedition of faster approval for the design.
  • In case of any comments received from Employer on the design submittal, review all the comments properly and prepare the responses with the help of the design consultant, if required. Ensure timely submission of responses within the allowed response period to Employer and arrange a comments resolution meeting between Employer & Design Consultant
  • Prepare project design review comment sheets on the design submittals in line with design programme
  • Engage with relevant Construction team to seek input on agreed construction methodology and sequence for each structure & provide timely clarification on design related queries to construction team whenever requested.
  • Coordination with procurement team to provide information on design towards preparation of procurement packages
  • Coordination with Technical Office Manager on temporary works to provide information on design towards preparation of temporary works designs
