The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

The Mechanical Site Engineer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all mechanical engineering activities on-site to ensure the successful and safe execution of project works. This role involves supervising installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems; ensuring compliance with design, standards, and safety; resolving technical issues; managing subcontractors; and supporting project delivery within time, cost, environmental and quality targets.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary Qualifications or related discipline such as, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred
  • Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable projects works
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical installation practices, construction methodologies, and relevant industry codes (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
  • Experience with hydraulic structures, hydropower or related industrial infrastructure project is preferred
  • Experience with power system analysis software
  • Understanding of quality plans and Inspection Test Plans for electrical works, MEP Engineering.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings
  • Understanding of current and relevant health and safety regulations, good industry practice and engineering standards
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

 

 

 

Required Competencies:

  • Leadership skills with the ability to supervise teams and contractors
  • Strong verbal and communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise English
  • WHS – risk assessment, legislative compliance, JSEA writing desirable
  • Skills in construction method development and subsequent programming desirable
  • Contract comprehension, commercial awareness and ability to develop substantiated claims
  • Construction industry knowledge and experience of mechanical systems including steel structures and piping
  • Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Compile QA documentation including Work Packs, ITP’s Method statements and Construction verification
  • Manage NCRs, corrective actions, and ensure closure of quality-related issues
  • Ability to read, analyze, and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Must work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation
  • Respectfully takes direction and adheres to feedback from construction managers and project managers
  • Working experience managing site supervisors.
  • Attend project sites to coordinate and witness testing and commissioning activities
  • Coordinate daily work with subcontractors, site supervisors, and other engineering disciplines
  • Provide technical solutions for site issues, clashes, and design discrepancies
  • Liaise with design engineers to clarify technical requirements and obtain approvals for changes
  • Ensure all mechanical works meet engineering standards, project specifications, and relevant codes
  • Contribute to regular project meetings, communications and reports to the project manager and/or principal, which provide accurate and timely information to support their understanding of strategic risks, issues, opportunities, impacts and progress
  • Monitors progress of construction against the program and takes steps to ensure the program is achieved
  • Ensure mechanical activities are executed in accordance with site safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Support commissioning teams in system testing, pre-commissioning, and handover activities
  • Collaborate with procurement, logistics, and design teams to ensure project continuity
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and inspectors during site visits
