The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

Manage the installation and testing activities of the Balance of Plant (BoP) communications system to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements. To ensure the successful delivery of the project within the required constraints for time, cost, quality, safety, environment and the community.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary Qualifications or related discipline such as Telecommunications, ICT, Electronic or Systems Engineering.
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred.
  • Experience working in the end-to-end delivery of telecommunications and IT infrastructure projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of IP networking, CCTV, ACS, RF systems, Fixed voice and Data, fibre optics, 48V DC system and telecommunications protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working experience in managing site supervisors and subcontractors.
  • Experience with hydropower or related industrial infrastructure project

 

Required Competencies:  

  • Deep understanding of RF (Radio Frequency), fibre optics, IP networks, cybersecurity and telecommunications protocols.
  • Understanding of quality plans and Inspection Test Plans for communications system works.
  • Understanding of current and relevant health and safety regulations, good industry practice and engineering standards
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and physical capability to work on-site.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise English
  • WHS – risk assessment, legislative compliance, JSEA writing desirable
  • Skills in construction method development and subsequent programming desirable
  • Construction industry knowledge
  • Ability to read, analyse, and identify discrepancies on engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation
  • Respectfully takes direction and adheres to feedback from Senior Engineers and project managers
  • Capability to manage multidisciplinary teams and third-party contractors.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the installation and commissioning of Communications systems such as cable containment, fibre optic cabling, CAT 6A cabling, Radio communications cabling, FOC patch panel erecting, communication system racks and cabinet erecting, 48V DC system, CCTV, Access control system, splicing and termination, access points, RJ45 sockets.
  • Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form
  • Coordination of construction interfaces between Civil and other EM works.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of completed installation to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Compile QA documentation including Work Packs, ITP’s Method statements and Construction verification
  • Providing communications system engineering technical input into projects at various stages.
  • Coordinate and witness testing and commissioning activities
  • Contribute to regular project meetings, communications and reports to the project manager and/or principal, which provide accurate and timely information to support their understanding of strategic risks, issues, opportunities, impacts and progress
  • Monitors progress of construction against the program and takes steps to ensure the program is achieved
  • Ensuring all work meets industry standards, communication codes, and safety regulations
  • Managing project construction documentation.
  • Review of all the shop drawings and construction and quality documents submitted by the subcontractor.
  • Follow up with EM BoP subcontractors for communications systems shop drawing Progress
