The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role

The Deputy TBM Construction Manager oversees the planning, coordination and execution of TMB construction activities, ensuring safe and efficient operations that meet project specifications. Reporting directly to the TBM Construction Manager (CM), this role manages the full scope of TBM operations, including site activities, workforce management and client interactions in the CM’s absence. Key responsibilities include managing the work front from operational execution to overall project coordination, leading workforce management including interviewing and hiring, facilitating internal stakeholder and client meetings, and handling official communications related to TBM activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field - preferred
  • Proven experience in a construction management role, with a focus on TBM tunnelling or complex construction
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification - preferred
  • C Class driver’s licence
  • White Card

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in construction, with at least 3 years in a management role – preferred
  • Extensive experience in TBM tunnelling projects or underground construction
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools

Required Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, methodologies and best practices, specifically for TBM mining operations and related activities
  • Proficiency coordinating construction activities, resources and schedules across multidisciplinary teams
  • Highly effective leadership and team management skills to guide and motivate construction teams
  • Familiarity with local and international safety regulations and standards in construction
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with project teams, contractors and the client
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to identify and effectively address construction-related challenges
  • Sound decision-making skills to ensure project progress and compliance
  • Experience in managing construction budgets and financial resources

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Assist the TBM Construction Manager overseeing all TBM works construction activities, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and timeline standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to coordinate complex construction schedules, resources, and activities specific to the TBMs.
  • Ensure that TBM construction activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Provide dedicated leadership and guidance to construction teams working on the TBMs, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
  • Support the TBM Construction Manager in workforce management, including interviewing and onboarding.
  • Implement and oversee quality control processes on the TBMs, ensuring construction meets the specific requirements of approved design packages while reviewing them towards optimisation of construction and progress targets.
  • Facilitate effective communication tailored to the TBM context between project teams, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring clear and consistent information.
  • Address and resolve TBM-related conflicts or issues that may arise during project execution, escalating to the TBM Construction Manager as necessary.
  • Assist in monitoring construction budgets and expenditures specific to the TBMs, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with TBM-related construction activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in construction operations, with a focus on the TBMs works.
  • Represent the TBM construction team in client meetings and official communication when delegated or in the absence of the TBM Construction Manager.
