The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role

The Spoil Advisor supports the Project by coordinating and performing environmental materials testing on soils, rock and water. This role is responsible for managing data and reporting related to spoil testing activities and ensuring compliance with Project specifications and safety standards. The Spoil Advisor will be an active member of the laboratory team, conducting tests, recording and reporting results, operating within quality management systems and liaising with subcontractors to support efficient spoil management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental engineering or related field
  • White Card

Experience

  • Minimum 2 year’s experience testing in a chemistry or environmental science lab
  • Experience working on or supporting construction or infrastructure project - preferred

 

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated skills in analytical chemistry, such as sample preparation, titration, pH measurement
  • Knowledge of sample preparation and testing procedures related to NAG pH and Net Acid Production Potential (NAPP) of rock and soil samples
  • Proven ability to perform laboratory testing of soils, rock and water in accordance with Australian standards
  • Well-developed time management and organisational skills
  • Data management and reporting
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong initiative and proactive nature
  • Effective collaborative skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily site operation of spoil testing activities.
  • Perform laboratory testing of soils, rock and water, ensuring that the laboratory testing services are conducted safely and according to Project specifications
  • Operate the chemical testing area, including the handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Coordinate activities internally with other departments and with subcontracted laboratory service providers.
  • Coordinate off-site testing, including logistics, chain-of-custody documentation and reporting.
  • Enter data and generate reports and summaries to be shared with the client in relation to spoil testing on the Project.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement by monitoring quality standards and practices.
  • Assist with the calibration and maintenance of the laboratory equipment.
