This role supports one of New Zealand’s most significant and technically complex vertical infrastructure development currently underway. About the Role

Based in Christchurch and reporting to the Design & Engineering Manager, the Lead Document Controller is responsible for leading the document control function across the project.

You will ensure all project documentation and data is accurate, integrated, accessible and compliant, while providing leadership and oversight of document control activities across design, construction and completions.

In this role, you will directly manage a Document Controller on the project, providing day-to-day guidance, support and performance oversight to ensure high-quality, consistent delivery of document control services.

 

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and oversee the project EDMS, ensuring all controlled documentation is managed, stored and accessible in line with project and client requirements
  • Manage document receipt, registration, distribution, tracking and filing
  • Ensure strong data quality, compliance and audit readiness across all project information
  • Establish and manage document review and approval workflows, including expediting frameworks across design, supplier and construction documentation
  • Monitor document flows to ensure timely delivery and reporting of project information
  • Support continuous improvement and standardisation of document control processes
  • Provide guidance and day-to-day support to the Document Controller on the project, ensuring consistent and high-quality delivery of document control services
  • Assist with workload coordination and prioritisation across document control activities
  • Contribute to reporting, issue resolution and performance monitoring
  • Provide training and system support for project team members, suppliers and new starters
  • Act as a key point of contact for document control queries across the project
  • Support effective communication and information flow between stakeholders

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive experience in document control on major infrastructure or construction projects (typically 10+ years)
  • Proven experience leading document control teams in complex project environments
  • Strong expertise in EDMS platforms and document management best practice
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to improve processes and drive performance
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

You will ideally have:

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong understanding of data quality, reporting and compliance requirements
  • Experience in process mapping and development of work instructions
