Project Overview
This role supports one of New Zealand’s most significant and technically complex vertical infrastructure developments. The project is a large-scale, secure operational facility being delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and joint venture model, bringing together some of the country’s most experienced construction, engineering and service delivery organisations.
Designed to operate around the clock once complete, the facility incorporates high-security environments, complex building systems, and long-term asset management requirements. The project environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative and governance-led, with strong interface management across public and private sector stakeholders.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Materials & Logistics Manager to lead materials management, warehousing, and logistics functions on this nationally significant infrastructure project.
This role is critical to ensuring materials are effectively managed, tracked, and delivered to support construction activities safely, efficiently, and in line with project timelines and budgets
Supply Chain Manager
Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Materials & Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing all site-based materials and logistics operations, including warehousing, inventory, and expediting activities.
You will lead a team across materials control, warehousing, and logistics to ensure timely delivery, accurate inventory management, and strong supplier coordination within a complex project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage site warehousing, material laydown, and logistics operations
- Oversee receipt, inspection, storage, and dispatch of materials and equipment
- Manage inventory systems, stock levels, and material tracking records
- Lead inbound logistics and expediting to ensure on-time delivery
- Oversee purchase requisitions and goods receipt processes within SAP
- Coordinate with procurement, construction, and supply chain teams to align delivery schedules
- Manage supplier and subcontractor interfaces related to materials and logistics
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality management plans
- Identify resource requirements (labour, plant, materials) and plan accordingly
- Lead and develop a team of supervisors and controllers, driving performance and capability
- Monitor and manage risks associated with logistics, storage, and material handling
- Ensure all activities are delivered in line with project schedule, budget, and quality standards
About You
You are a hands-on leader with strong operational experience in materials management and logistics within large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
You bring:
- Proven experience managing warehousing, materials, and logistics operations on major projects
- Strong leadership capability with experience managing site-based teams
- Ability to coordinate across procurement, construction, and supply chain functions
- A solid understanding of safety, risk, and compliance within logistics environments
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach in fast-paced project settings
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in materials, logistics, or warehouse management within construction
- Experience on large-scale infrastructure or construction projects
- Strong knowledge of inventory, stock control, and material management systems (SAP preferred)
- Solid understanding of logistics coordination, expediting, and supplier management
- Experience with safety and environmental management in site-based operations
- Strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills
