The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role

The Manager of Environmental Strategy and Compliance is responsible for the strategic development of environmental initiatives, regulatory liaison, and client management in relation to environmental compliance. This role involves overseeing environmental approvals, ensuring contract compliance, and collaborating with various teams to promote environmental practices across construction activities.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Environmental Field (Science, Law, Management or Biodiversity)

Experience

  • 10 years in senior environmental roles within the construction industry, preferably major infrastructure projects
  • Regulatory Exposure – strong regulatory framework, knowledge and understanding of their applications in complex construction environments.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead the formulation and implementation environmental strategies that align with both the organisational and client requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for improving environmental practices within the project.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with key environmental regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Stay informed and ensure broader Environmental team is up to date with changes in legislation, approvals, and other factors that impact on delivery of environmental practices.
  • Establish and maintain string relationships with client, acting as the primary link between the project and client interfaces.
  • Ensure the client is kept informed about environmental compliance issues and strategies that affect their conditions of approvals and license to operate.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with environment standards within the project.
  • Ensure the requirements of the contract are met and variations to work are captured to ensure costs are reimbursed as per contract conditions.
  • Oversee audits and assessments to evaluate compliance and identify areas for improvements.
  • Work closely with the Environmental Delivery teams to ensure alignment with overarching strategies and client expectations, and that environmental elements are integrated into construction delivery practices.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Manager (Delivery) to ensure alignment on compliance and sustainability initiatives across the project.
  • Develop and present reports on environmental performance, compliance states, and strategi initiatives to the QHSE Director, Senior Leadership and the client.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to environmental compliance, regulatory interactions and client communications.
