The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world. 

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements. To ensure the successful delivery of the project within the required constraints for time, cost, quality, safety, environment and the community.

 

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary Qualifications or related discipline such as, Mechanical Engineering
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred
  • Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable projects works
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with hydraulic structures, hydropower or related industrial infrastructure project
  • Experience with power system analysis software
  • Working experience in managing site supervisors.

 

 

Required Competencies:  

  • Ability to interpret electrical system studies and define key risks
  • Understanding of quality plans and Inspection Test Plans for electromechanical works, HVAC and MEP Engineering.
  • Understanding of current and relevant health and safety regulations, good industry practice and engineering standards
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal and communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise English
  • Financial Management, ability to understand budgets and forecasts
  • WHS – risk assessment, legislative compliance, JSEA writing desirable
  • Skills in construction method development and subsequent programming desirable
  • Contract comprehension, commercial awareness and ability to develop substantiated claims
  • Construction industry knowledge and experience of mechanical systems including steel structures and piping
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation
  • Respectfully takes direction and adheres to feedback from construction managers and project managers

 

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • To provide technical planning, support and reporting for all aspects of the project works execution
  • Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
  • Develop construction methods
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Supervise and train project team members as necessary.
  • Investigate and test vendors' and competitors' products.
  • Oversee project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of Mechanical systems, and topographical maps to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Develop budgets, estimating labour, material, and construction costs.
  • Conduct field surveys and study maps, graphs, diagrams, and other data to identify and correct power system problems.
  • Assists in Operations planning
  • Oversees project closeout
  • Coordinate and manage Subcontractor’s installation activities and Site Superintendents works
  • Coordinates with personnel in other departments, project managers and client personnel to review designs and installations and resolve areas of concern
  • Construction inspection and preparation of inspection reports
  • Devise and evaluate alternatives to determine the most cost-effective solutions
  • Contribute to regular project meetings, communications and reports to the project manager and/or principal, which provide accurate and timely information to support their understanding of strategic risks, issues, opportunities, impacts and progress
  • Attend project sites to coordinate and witness testing and commissioning activities
  • Monitors progress of construction against the program and takes steps to ensure the program is achieved
