Terra Verde is delivering nearly 10 kilometres of parallel tunnels between Glen Waverley and Box Hill, including 39 cross passages and two station boxes at Glen Waverley and Burwood in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, as part of the Suburban Rail Loop Project.
This is the largest infrastructure project in Victoria’s history, shaping Melbourne and Victoria for future generations.
About the Role:
We are looking for a passionate Geotechnical Engineer to join our construction team. Reporting to the Geotechnical Manager, you will gain practical experience while contributing to a major infrastructure project.
Your role will involve overseeing various geotechnical aspects of tunnel construction, including sample logging, face mapping, probe hole logging, and analysing instrumentation and monitoring data. Additionally, you will be responsible for understanding and reviewing support design drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the relevant Inspection and Test plan for the geotechnical works on site
- Obtain soil and rock samples at different depths across sites and testing samples to determine strength, compressibility and other factors that affect the behaviour of soil and rock when a structure is imposed and determining the safe loading for the soil
- Prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for geotechnical schemes
- Prepare or review tunnel face logging and compare to expected ground conditions, review tunnel support allocation compared to agreed design
- Ensure geotechnical monitoring / instrumentation and related reporting
- Interface with Contractor’s construction and methods teams
- Determine construction methods, materials and standards and drafting and interpreting specifications, drawings, plans and procedures
- Perform geotechnical analysis and study to assess construction site condition and perform field and environmental investigations
- Carry out geotechnical designs to the project structures schemes to deliver the outcomes agreed to program and budgets

Qualifications and Experience:
- Engineering Degree in Geotechnics or Geology, Engineering
- The candidate shall preferably have proven experience, preferably on similar Design and Build fast-track projects, covering design and works.
- Experience on drill & blast / traditional tunnelling will be appreciated.
