Technical Manager


The Technical Manager reports to the Technical Director. He manages and coordinate the following department:

  • Survey
  • Site Technical Office (including Project Quantities)
  • Laboratory and Geotechnical department


Responsibilities Included, (But Not Limited To)
  • Be responsible for the coordination between the Design Team (DT), the DJV, Construction and Plant Team, and the Site Technical Office (STO), ensuring the Technical Services are in line with the development of the design and construction activities;
  • Be responsible of the daily communication with the Employer Design and Construction Team in Cooma, participating to all meetings related with design and technical issues; particularly he should be the link between the Employer Engineering Managers and the FGJV; a direct and open communication with the Employer has the target to speed up the approval process of Design Packages for Permanent and Temporary Works and ensure the Employer is always informed about Contractor activities. It is required a strong capacity to explain and defend the Contractor technical position.
  • Coordinate the activity of the STO with the Construction Department needs, dealing and discussing the main issues directly with the Construction Director;
  • Supporting the Technical Director with the multiple meetings and workshop with the Employer
  • Identify and report to the Technical Director and the Project Director any issue which can produce impact on the project along with proposal of solutions;
  • Ensure that the multidisciplinary design functions meet the client, regulator, business and other stakeholder requirements;
  • Lead and manage internal multidisciplinary interfaces to drive Design outcomes and resolve issues in the interest of the Project;
  • Manage and coordinate Design and Construction Documentation in accordance with the requirements of the Project Deed and ensure the delivery against the Design and Engineering Management Plan.
  • Ensure that projects complete on time using sufficient and correct design coordinated information
  • Agree a schedule of Consultant's, their scope of works, fee proposals and assist in drafting their appointments
  • Provide design input to the Contracts Manager & Quantity Surveyors to manage the completion of the design during construction on site
  • Provide an overview for design methodology, liaise with design consultants
  • Attend pre-start supply chain meetings (where design is involved) and approve minutes before they go out
  • Assist in Obtaining or advise on Statutory Authorities connections and possible issues
  • Collaborate with relevant internal departments and external Subcontractors to Develop a design program for The Works
  • Schedule required consultants and estimated design fees
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Department to identify potential problems and develop contingency solutions
  • Read and comment on written submission, provide Contractors Proposals documentation if required
  • Hold design audits to ensure drawings meet the project’s requirements and company’s expectations before issuing to Client
  • Liaise with Planning, Building Control and all appropriate bodies to meet statutory and planning obligations
  • Manage records of approvals and information required, to facilitate handover to Client on completion
  • Create Project and internal monthly design reports



  • Hydro Project experience with a strong background in the fields of heavy civil, construction and hydro engineering
  • Project Management background
  • Understanding of all the implications that the technical discussions can have on the project in terms of costs, timing and legal/contractual profile.
